Vintage Military Zrak Rd 7x40 Binocular (carl Zeiss Jena Licence)
These binoculars were used during the Balkan wars and in Iraq. This is a superb opportunity to own one of the most iconic military binocular models in history, with the added interest of it being made under licence from Carl Zeiss Jena in Bosnia. Rubber eyes are slightly damaged(look the picture 3,4,6). A fabulous example serial no. 8621047 of the scarce and much sought after Bosnian-made version of the famous Carl Zeiss Jena'Checkpoint Charlie' DF 7x40 military binocular. This model was made under licence from the Zeiss Jena company and is discussed on the website of the optics expert Dr Holger Merlitz. It is apparently still made in Bosnia. It is an extremely rugged binocular, produced to very high standards using outstanding glass and coatings (in my opinion using better and more up to date glass/coatings than the original Carl Zeiss Jena version).
It produces very bright, sharp and colour-rich images. The special features of the binocular include the following.
Wide angle design (150 m at 1,000 m). High index prisms giving excellent brightness. Elaborate rubber eyecups which long eye-relief, making them suitable to use with a gas mask. Very sturdy construction with extensive rubber armour.
Infra-red detector in the left eyepiece (this is activated by twisting a small button). Two filters for yellow / snow (they fit nicely into rainguard - see photo). LENSES AND PRISMS - Excellent interior and exterior conditions.
There are no chips, hazelnuts, fungi or any other significant problems. Some of the coatings have been removed from the lens in places (probably through cleaning), but I believe this does not make it noticeable other than the optical performance of binoculars.
