These 8x50 binoculars from the West German firm Carl Zeiss (not to be confused with the inferior East German firm of the same name) are generally regarded as some of the finest porro prism binoculars ever made. The distance between the objective lenses gives excellent depth of field and a wonderful three dimensional effect. The wide lenses also mean their performance in low light is impressive. I believe this pair would have been made in the late 1950s. The 60s version of these binoculars had fold down rubber eyecups for the convenience of spectacle wearers and were re-named the 8x50B but were in all other respects identical. This model was discontinued because the cost of manufacture made them uneconomic and Zeiss wanted to give priority to their new roof prism glasses but many used lamented their demise. This pair is in excellent condition with only light signs of use. There is little or no dust visible and the view is clear and contrasty. The leather hard case case is also in excellent condition and the binoculars come with their original strap and a cover for use if it is raining.
