It has anti-reflective blue coated lenes, waterproof oculars, removable desiccant cartridges specifically for use at sea and is prominently decorated with the Eagle and Cross. This pair of binoculars was part of a limited production of only 1.000 pieces. It is also marked: "M IV/1" which is the seal of acceptance of the naval inspector. This pair was solely used by officers assigned to Battleships, Destroyers or U-Boats in the Kriegsmarine (unit nr: 41172) allocated to the North Sea front.

Due to early war manufacturing this pair of binoculars is made of high quality aluminum for the housing. The optics are brilliant and the view, even with some artifacts on the front lens they remain absolutely clear.

Both left and right waterproof oculars can be focused individually for optimal sharpness best suited for you and it does so smoothly. The eye-pupil lenses are 7,14mm in diameter and therefore let in a lot of natural light and because of the lens coating your eyes will be very relaxed even when observing overexposed subjects.

This, subsequently, makes it very suitable for night-time observation, high contrast environments or astronomical purposes at sea or ashore. If the binoculars are subject to internal condensation due to atmospheric conditions you can unscrew the desiccant cartridges (one for each monocular housing) and allow the binoculars to acclimatize in just moments. Personally I believe you cannot get a better mix of patina and functionality. This binocular beats most things I see hands down in terms of shear character alone.

Considering its constant exposure to the elements like salty sea water, burning sunlight, rain showers, freezing conditions, and stormy winds it still has a very solid grip and simply looks stunning. Today it qualifies for daily usage should you prefer it so, or, solely as a beautiful collector piece due to the limited production range of only 1.000 pieces alone and of course because of its fascinating history.
